Internet experts are warning of a new scam for collecting passwords and log-in information. Pop-up ads have apparendy been designed to download a program onto personal computers that keeps track of log-ins at any of the 50 largest banks in the world. The program, which works on computers using the Internet Explorer browser, captures the information and sends it to another web site. Banks in the USA, Europe, Asia, Australia and the Middle East reportedly were among the targeted sites. The threat of increasingly sophisticated online fraud is "a reality that banks face across the world," says Chris Pepper, a spokesman for Royal Bank of Canada, one of the banks targeted.
